Car Insurance GMC (Car Insurance). Does this sound like a bad steering rack?Does this sound like a bad steering rack? Hitting bumps on the highway as well as those bridge connectors, my steering wheel goes but for that second i hit the bump..almost like i lose complete control for that second yet the car is still going in the strait line. I also have slight shuddering from the steering wheel when turning at speeds of 40 mph and up as well as steering wheel vibration sometimes pretty bad at 60+ Bought brand new tires..and have had 3 difference balances with no help..bad steering rack? Steering rack cannot cause vibration. It has to be from something moving, either rotating or quickly back and forth. Things I would check would be mud behind all four wheels, sounds crazy but can cause imbalance. This is the easiest to check/fix. Is car front or rear wheel drive? If front wheel drive, have the entire front suspension and drive train checked. If rear wheel drive there are some other things you can check yourself. U-joints and drive line are fairly easy, just crawl under and try to move the drive line up and down and side to side. Do this near the ends to see if there is any play in the U-joints. Front wheel bearings are also not to hard to check. One way is to grab the tire near the top and push and pull in and out really hard, If you hear a slight bumping noise then the wheel bearings may be bad., and also have alignment checked. I'm going to venture a guess that the vehicle is front wheel drive? If so there are many things that could cause these symptoms. Most likely, in my opinion, would be C/V joints. have the tie rod ends checked, these are the pivot points on the steering rack that wear out and control your alignment I would suggest taking your car in to a place that does front end work and alignment and have them do a thorough inspection. GMC . How to Repair Damage to a Car YourselfVisible dents on a car diminish its monetary value as well as the aesthetic design of the vehicle. Repairs of even the smallest dents in a car can cost hundreds of dollars. Use household items and appliances to repair the damage yourself and avoid unnecessarily spending money. Whether the damage results from a hail storm, an airborne pebble or human error, the removal and repair of a dent requires some simple tools, skill and patience. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need Hair dryer Air duster Dry cloth Wax Step by Step : 1 Heat the area of the dent with the hair dryer for one minute. 2 Spray the area of the dent for 10 seconds with liquid CO2 from the air duster can. Hold the air duster upside down when spraying. 3 Step away from the car and listen for the pop of metal from the dent back into its proper position. 4 Wait for the ice that forms on the metal surface to disappear. This method does not damage the paint on the vehicle. 5 Clean the area with a dry cloth and wax.
GMC . How to Remove Scuffs From a Plastic BumperMost drivers will at some point receive a scuff on their plastic bumper, and whether it is their fault or the fault of another, repair is costly. The inconvenience of taking the car to the shop, being without a car, and paying for the repair puts a strain on life. You can fix many scuffs at home if you have the patience and a small amount of skill. Follow a few simple steps to remove the scuff mark and get your bumper looking as good as new. Difficulty:Moderate Instructions Things You'll Need Dish soap Cloth Paper towels Sandpaper Newspaper Automotive primer Grease and wax remover Automotive paint Automotive clear coat Step by Step : 1 Clean the scuffed area with dish soap. Use a small cloth on the end of your finger to scrub the area to remove dust, dirt, wax and paint particles. Rinse completely to remove all the soap and pat dry with a paper towel. 2 Check the extent of damage by using your fingernail to determine if the scratches are shallow or deep. If your nail hangs on a scratch, it is a deep one. 3 Polish the scuffed area gently with a piece of sandpaper. Use a grit of at least 120. Continue polishing the area until it is smooth to the touch. Sand the whole area evenly so that no low spots are evident. 4 Affix newspaper behind the bumper to cover the exposed section of your car. This protects your car from the paint. 5 Spray automotive primer over the area of the scuff. Do not overextend the primer into undamaged areas. Use two coats of primer and allow at least 30 minutes between coats for the primer to dry. 6 Polish the primer using sandpaper until it becomes smooth to the touch. Use 300 grit or larger sandpaper to polish the primer. 7 Wipe the area with grease and wax remover to completely clean the surface of any oil, dust or wax buildup. You need an absolutely clean surface to achieve a satisfactory finish after painting. 8 Hold the can of automotive spray paint approximately 8 inches from the bumper and spray a light coat of paint straight on the scuff. Allow the coat to dry for minutes before applying each successive coat. Use two or three coats to cover the scuff and primer. 9 Spray two coats of clear coat on the area using the same procedure as you used with the automotive paint. Clear coat requires at least 24 hours to dry, so do not drive the car until the last coat of clear coat has completely dried. Tips & Warnings Select a can of automotive paint that matches the color of your bumper. You may have to ask at the dealership if you can't find one at the auto parts store. If you are in doubt as to the coverage of the primer, apply another light coat of paint. *Coolant is very toxic and cannot be disposed of except at special depots set up for this purpose. Call your local toxic waste management agency to find out where you may take coolant for disposal. While you're messing around with your cooling system, feel the radiator hoses, too. (They're the big hoses that go into the top and come out of the bottom of the radiator.) If they're leaking, cracked, bulgy, or squishy, they should be replaced. For more information about replacing hoses and adding water or coolant to the radiator, see Chapter 14; to find out what to do if your car overheats anyway, head to Chapter 21. Check the Hoses To check your car's hoses, walk around the hood area and squeeze every hose you encounter. If you find any that are leaking, bulgy, soft and squishy, or hard and brittle, replace them. Replacing a hose is easy and inexpensive. You'll find instructions for how to do so in Chapter 14. It pays to replace hoses before they break; any savings in time or effort aren't worth the aggravation of having your trip come to an abrupt halt on the free way because of a broken hose. Most tow trucks don't carry spare hoses (they'd have to carry too many different kinds, and they don't have the time to change hoses on the road), and you may end up paying an expensive tow 208

You should check your oil at least once a month to make sure that there's enough oil and that it isn't contaminated. To find out whether your car needs oil, do the following: 1. When the engine is cold (or has been off for at least ten minutes), pull out the dipstick (the one with a ring on the end of it that sticks out the side of the engine, as shown in Figure 3-9) and wipe it off on a clean, lint-free rag. Why you should check the oil yourself The problem with driving into a gas station and damage it. For this reason, always wait at least allowing the attendant to check your oil is that ten minutes after you shut off the engine before the dipstick will always read a little low allowing anyone to check the dipstick. If you because so much of the oil is still inside the hot don't feel like sitting around at a gas station, the engine rather than in the oil pan. By adding more best time to check your oil is first thing in the oil until it reaches the "Full" level on the stick, morning, when the car has been sitting all night the attendant may overfill the engine and and the engine is cold. Shove the stick back in again. If the dipstick gets stuck on the way in, turn it around. The pipe it fits into is curved, and the metal stick bends naturally in the direction of the curve if you put it back in the way it came out. 3. Pull the dipstick out again and look at the film of oil on the end of the stick (see Figure 3-10). fa Figure 3-10: This is one time when you want to follow directions from a dipstick. 4. Notice how high the oil film reaches on the dipstick and the condition of the oil. If your oil looks clean enough but only reaches the "Add" level on the dipstick, you need to add oil. You can get some oil the next time you fill up at the gas station, or you can buy a bottle at an auto supply store and add it yourself.
